One question:

Is it better for a visitor to read one article and then leave (ie will Google add ANY weight to that page due to the visit) OR it it better that the visitor does not come at all?

If it's the former, then low quality traffic is still favorable for the website.

A blog with fresh content will make your website work for you better than you could imagine as it will drive relevant traffic to your site. Fresh content is king. Ads still have their place though... especially when the ad is highly relevant to the content that is being served.

Regards,

/Brian
