5 things you must do once Google swings its hammer at you

things to do after Google hit your site

You are playing a dangerous game building backlinks to your website because you know Google doesn’t like it. They think you are trying to manipulate your rankings, which you are. SEO can have a very positive effect on your business, but there are always going to be some people who take it too far. It’s those people who wake up one day and realize their business has gone.

Do you trust yourself to carry out SEO in a safe manor? Do you trust the people who build your backlinks for you? Even if everyone who works on your site is great at what they do it doesn’t mean nobody will ever make a mistake. Would you know what to do if you got penalized? We’re now going to look at 5 things you should do and you’ll be more prepared if the time comes.

Lift your hands off the keyboard

You need to stop doing everything as soon as you find out something is wrong. You’ll be able to tell if you usually get a lot of traffic from the search engines because it will dry up and nobody will be visiting your site. The worst thing you can do is continue to build backlinks because you could be making the situation much worse and that is not a route you want to go down.

Look at what caused it

You need to think carefully about what you might have done wrong. Don’t try to jump to any quick conclusions because it’s sometimes not the first thing you think of. What have you been doing that could be considered spamming? Maybe it wasn’t even you that done anything wrong and one of your rivals might have been trying to ruin your site in order to steal your rankings.

Make some changes

You can’t just leave it the way it is because you will never get back in Google’s good books. You need to try and make them happy, so start contacting people and asking them to delete the bad links. You can even employ a company to do it for you. Try to do everything you can to rectify the situation before you ask them to reconsider your site.

Keep your link builder

If you employ a link builder it might have been them creating the backlinks that got you de-indexed. Don’t turn around and fire them because it won’t work out well for you. They will be the ones will all the information about where the bad backlinks are. If you have to search around finding them yourself it will be a lot of work. I’m sure they never tried to hurt you on purpose.

Get strict about the future

Once you know what you did wrong it’s time to start all over again. You need to work out a new backlinking strategy that is a lot safer. You can’t forget about SEO because you will end up with a website nobody knows about, but there are always ways to build backlinks that won’t get you in trouble. Only you can decide how far you want to push it in the future, but try to be smart and don’t go too far again.
